Prospecting For Peace

Prospecting For Peace
10/01/2002

Gold was discovered in California over 100 years ago.
Still today prospectors search for the yellow treasure that
will transform their lives. Panning for gold was a tedious and
back breaking job. Bending over the streams and rivers with a gold
pan and sifting for hours through the sand of the river with intent
eyes they scanned, dreamed and hoped to find that treasured nugget.

~ 1 Peter 3:10-11 ~ For the person who wants to love life and see
good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from
speaking deceit. He must turn away from evil and do good.
He must seek peace and pursue it.

These two verses give us a step by step plan to find this
treasure: PEACE! I don't know of anyone who doesn't want
good days. But to have those days you must watch your language.
Words have power.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never
hurt me." That is simply not true. Harsh words can kill your
spirit and harsh words from your lips can injure another's
spirit. Evil is injurious and the effects of such leaves years
of scars unseen by the human eye but felt
inward by the person who is hurt.

To turn away from evil is to shun it and go out of your
way to avoid it. In doing so you will acquire good days
and peace will be in your soul.
Peace brings with it rest and prosperity.

We seek peace and pursue it. This is a daily decision for us.
Peace is the deliberate adjustment of my life to the will of God.
It is a choice. Trusting God in everything brings peace and
praying to HIM to "fix" whatever is troubling you is a good
way to maintain peace within. Sometimes we have to talk to
ourselves when a situation full of turmoil arises -
"Is this worth losing my peace over?"

Prospecting for the treasure of Peace is desiring to obtain that
living water and thirsting for it until we drink and are satisfied.
It is a continual quenching. You must learn the will of God so you
can do the will of God. You must live inside God's will daily.

~ John 14:27 ~ I give you peace, the kind of peace that only
I can give. It isn't like the peace that this world can give.
So don't be worried or afraid.

~ Romans 8:5-6 ~ For those who live according to the flesh
set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who
live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things
of the Spirit. For the mind of the flesh is death;
but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.
